BeautyFlip #1: Homemade paleo toothpaste recipe

A few days ago I kicked off a new blog post series on Paleo beauty products and explained why it may make sense for anyone to consider going all natural when it comes to soaps, shampoos, conditioners, makeups, and all the other beauty products that we stock at home.

Toothpaste was my first successful transition. This toothpaste tastes great and may alleviate gum or canker sores because it doesn’t contain Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS), a common irritant used in toothpaste. SLS is what makes the toothpaste fizzy – so keep in mind that this toothpaste will not be fizzy, but that’s part of what makes it healthier for your teeth and gums.

It only takes 10 minutes to put it together.

The ingredients:

  1. 4 tbs melted coconut oil (put it in the microwave for 20 seconds)
  2. 4 tbs Xylitol
  3. 15 drops of peppermint essential oil
  4. 3 tbs baking soda
  5. 3 tbs arrowroot powder

Simply mix all ingredients in a bowl or blender and that’s it! Happy brushing!
